Victorian Bathing Carriage

We provided support to the team behind Margate’s new Victorian bathing carriage as featured on “George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces”. The project was on a tight time-line, and we worked closely with them to simplify the design to make it as producable as possible.

In addition, we also took care of delivering the more mechanically technical areas of the design, producing fully detailed production drawings of the front and rear axle assemblies. Keeping the endearing charm of the old Victorian carriages meant using traditional wheelwright made wooden wheels. We had to manage the loads to ensure that the several ton carriage would hold up to rigours of the seaside, and yet be made from easily available materials.
