Design is an iterative process, and even the best ideas usually need several iterations before they are ready to be released for manufacture
With our large network of specialist suppliers we are able to build all sorts of prototypes – from ‘works like’ functional prototypes, through ‘looks like’ visual models, and finally manufacturing intent ‘looks like, works like’ finished prototypes. These prototypes are used to verify the design from both a user’s and a technical perspective.
For example, we were recently challenged to come up with a new business class airline seat mechanism that was simpler, lighter, less expensive, and more customisable. Using a series of prototypes, we developed a novel solution that was half the weight of current seats, and had half the number of parts. The fully functioning prototype we finished with enabled our client to carry out ergonomic, structural integrity, and manufacturability testing, and secured them a patent in the process.
